Before You Apply That Car Wax

Like most car owners, you are probably quite proud of your possession. That is quite understandable, since the purchase of your car likely represents a hefty financial investment on your part, never mind any significance in terms of personal achievement. You can hardly be blamed for wanting to treat your car like a baby (which in fact many people do!), which is why the use of car wax is a particularly important concern.

You might be thinking that the choice of a car wax is a fairly trivial issue, and that you could simply drive down to your local car care emporium and buy the first tin of car wax that you see on the shelves. While it is true that most reputable car wax brands are of sufficiently good quality to be used with any type of finish, there is a bit more to it than slapping on a few handfuls of car wax and wiping it down with whatever rag you find handy. You do want to take care of your car’s finish after all right?

While you can generally get satisfactory results with almost any recognizable brand of car wax on the market, you may want to look for one that has a low abrasive content if you are especially concerned about preserving the integrity of your car’s finish. This will help you avoid even the minutest scratches on your precious pride and joy.

Before you slather the car wax on, you will of course want to make sure that the surface is clean and free form any heavy dirt, mud, and old car wax buildup. You should first wash your car down with a soap that is specifically intended for car use and a soft cloth or towel. Lots of water is also absolutely essential so that you can thoroughly wash off any mud or dirt that can potentially harm the finish of your car. Washing the surface thoroughly will also ensure that none of that nasty stuff gets reworked into the finish when you apply the car wax.

After you have made sure that the surface of your car is as clean as you could possibly get it, you can begin applying car wax, always remembering not to apply too much. Too much wax will simply be harder to remove later on and won’t really make your car any shinier. Also take care not to get any car wax in the cracks or seams of your car’s finish. Most experts recommend wiping your car down in a circular motion, working methodically throughout the vehicle. You may also find directions on the car wax label.

If you have followed all the manufacturer’s advice carefully, you should be presented with a car that gleams just like the day it came from the factory!
